Wort is the old english word for flower. This is interesting to me since we have spiderwort, masterwort and barrenwort in our yard. I hope your worts are doing well today.

i always wondered about those strange '-wort' names, but never knew the reason behind them. and i'm sorry, but shakespeare was wrong - "a rose by any other name..." might spoil the whole ambiance of its scent! anyway, knowing the meaning behind the names will definitely change my perception of those unfortunate, archaically-named flowers.

Wort is such an odd/funny word. It just makes you wonder why they named these that way. Hmmm.
